What you'll do:

The Systems Software Engineer in the OCTO advanced development organization will help drive new technologies into HPEs business units through design, development, troubleshooting and debugging of software for cloud native infrastructure.

This includes the development of software for PC based server architectures including servers, networking and storage subsystems,

This role will provide advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.

  • Design, develop and test software using common software development best practices.
  • Perform hands on hardware setup, configuration and operation of infrastructure including servers, networking, and storage.
  • Solve problems for either hardware and/or software.
  • Share the results of your work to the internal and external stake holders.
  • Provide domain-specific expertise and overall software systems leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
  • Drive innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the software systems design organization.

The technology:

The technology you will be working with is for next generation cloud computing infrastructure including computer servers, networking switches and storage sub-systems. Additionally, you will be working with existing and evolving standards as it pertains to cloud computing.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • Typically 6-10 years experience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in PC based server architecture solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter who can take initiative

What we’d prefer you bring:

The ideal candidate will have good expertise in the following areas:

  • Linux operating systems: install, update, operation
  • Programming Languages: C, C++, GoLang, scripting languages such as Python, bash shell
  • Networking: Ethernet, TCP/IP suite, NICs, switches, routing protcols
  • Storage: ATA, SCSI, NVMe, file systems, NAS
  • Embedded systems knowledge a plus
  • Code: development best practices, CI / CD, revision control
  • Agile process understanding

Annual salary disclosure applies to these states:

California, Colorado

Annual Salary: $109,400.00 - $251,500.00
